Connected Math Program

Century Middle School is in the first year of CMP2 implementation for all grade levels. CMP2 is very similar to the CMP original. It is still a problem-centeredapproach to math with a heavy emphasis on reading and writing as well. The main difference is the full-color student textbooks and the more “streamlined” instruction for essential math learning. CMP2 is different from the traditional math curriculum that most parents are familiar with. If your child used Everyday Math in elementary school, then they have already been exposed to the learning strategies embedded in CMP2.

CMP2 is a problem-centered program designed to assist students in developing understanding and skill as they explore problems individually, in a group, or with the whole class. It also provides skills practice with homework questions that give students practice with important concepts, skills, and algorithms.

The teachers at Century are excited teaching CMP2. As with any new program, there will be difficulties for students as well as teachers as we learn what works best for individual learners. We encourage you to become familiar with the program and help your child to fulfill his or her math potential. The information and strategies that follow may help you in helping your child learn math. Please feel free to contact your child’s math teacher if you have any questions about CMP2.
