Student
Objectives
The cell
Students will be able to:
1. Prepare a wet mount using biological dye.
2. Design an experiment to demonstrate that humans, too,
are made of cells.
3. Provide evidence that humans and all other complex
life-forms, are made of cells.
4. Compare and Contrast eukaryotic and prokaryotic
organisms.
5. Classify all organisms as eukaryotic or prokaryotic.
6. List and describe the function of organelles such as cell
membranes, cell walls, nuclei, chloroplasts, ribosome, mitochondria, and
cytoplasm.
7. Create notes form a multimedia presentation.
8. Identify the basic unit of life.
9. Explain and support the fact that all life is aquatic
at the cellular level.
Section 1: (history of microscope in this section is
bonus)
1. Tell what cells are
2. State the cell theory
Section 2:
1. Identify the role of the cell wall and the cell
membrane in the cell.
2. Describe the functions of cell organelles.
3. Explain how cells are organized in many-celled
organisms.
4. Tell how bacterial cells differ from plant and animal
cells
5. Tell how plant and animal cells differ from each other
Section 3: (all material in this section is bonus)
Section 4:
1. Describe how most small molecules cross the cell
membrane.
2. Explain why osmosis is important to cells.
3. Tell the difference between passive transport and
active transport.
