The only way to LEARN mathematics is to DO mathematics. -- Paul Halmos
We're beginning this semester by implementing a Blended Learning model in Math. Blended Learning combines access to online digital media with traditional classroom methods. There is some element of student control over time, place, path and pace.
Students are given a "Math Menu" at the beginning of each section of a chapter with assignments they are required to complete ("Entrees") and assignments they may explore after the requirements ("Desserts"). A Math Menu takes 2-3 class periods to complete. Entrees (including homework) may be completed in class or at home in any order, unless I specify otherwise. All assignments are available to students 24/7 in Google Classroom. Students who do not thrive in this environment will work in small groups with me so they do not fall behind.
Ask your student what s/he thinks about Blended Learning so far!
Remember, I'm available in my classroom Thursdays (7:30-8:10) and at Comet Cafe Tuesdays and Fridays (7:30-8:15).
