1.  Make a game that uses all the names of your classmates and Reffel's norms for the classroom-due August, 27 in class for playing.

2.  Make a web, rough draft, and final draft for your descriptive paragraph about the metaphor that you chose for yourself (ie. Reffel is a flip flop.)

3.  Read Gary Soto's "7th Grade" in the DAYBOOKS found on the resource shelf, pages 11-18.  Answer the questions on pgs. 11-19.

4.  Make a t-chart, rough draft, edit, and final draft of your essay on "What is the most important technology ever invented?"  Type into Word and paste in MY ACCESS for scoring. (8/31-9/2)

5.  Fill out your Scholarsmart data profile, take it home, and show parents how to get into the program.  Parents need to write a letter to me about your progress in language arts (reading/writing) over the years. (9/2-9/3)

6.  Take the computer reading test SRI and compare to your previous scores on Scholarsmart. (9/3)

7.  Play with AFFIXES (affixes=all the prefixes and suffixes that are added to root words).  Learn them using hand signs!  You will memorize 100 by Oct 30.

8.  WRITING STATIONS BEGIN(9/8-9/17)!  Station work is designed as CSAP writing and reading practice. CLICK HERE FOR DIRECTIONS.

9   Student homework is to finish whatever station work that is incomplete.  Grades are uploaded every Thursday at 6 pm.  You can check grades by going to Scholarsmart and typing your student's ID number for log-in and using the password of Cem + 4 numbers (your child's month (2 digits) and birthday (2 digits).  The first set of grades will be posted by the District 9/10/09.

10.  Students must memorize 100 Latin affixes (prefixes and suffixes) by the end of the trimester.  They need to be able to say the affix, give a hand signal, and know a word that uses that affix.  CLICK HERE FOR THE FIRST 51

11.  First set of stations are completed on 9/17 (no school 9/18).  Each student was to have 3 bullets done on each station to receive an A.  Many students had 2 and may receive a higher grade by completing the rest as homework.  See #8 above for the directions to these station.

12.  Students learned how to score their metaphor paragraphs using the CSAP rubric.  It is expected that ALL simple paragraphs have these elements.

13. Students start new READING stations for 2 weeks.  They are in new teams to match the stations.  CLICK HERE TO SEE NEW STATIONS

14. Teacher has started the new read-aloud from the novel HARRIS AND ME.  There is a read aloud every other 2 weeks.  The next one will be the last week of October, but these will be podcasts that have been professionally published. The podcasts are famous American scary stories (like those you heard at camp).  We will be teaching narratives (stories) and recounts (retelling of events) at that time, so these will be perfect for our content.

15.  Students started their new poem THE ALIENS HAVE LANDED.  It's a hoot.  Our pacing chart requires that students get a new poem for class study two weeks of every month.  We use the poems to practice all the elements of figurative language in context.  CLICK HERE TO READ POEM #1

16.  Students are being graded this week on the stations from #14/#15 above and these will be the final grades for midterms, which are submitted 10/6:  a) 4 inferences from station; 1 b) 2 main ideas/supporting details from station 2; c) 5 vocab word maps from station 3; d) 1 written page with peer edit and 1 summary of partner's page for station 4.
