Welcome to Sixth Grade! My job in your new core is to challenge you in Math thinking and be your Brain Coach. For some of you, you may already be shaking in your shorts as I once did the first day of sixth grade. This is what attracted me to teach Math. As I overcame this fear, I started to enjoy the challenge of mathematics and here I am with a degree in mathematics, teaching to you. I can assure you I would have never in a million trillion gadzillion years guessed this is where I would be when I was sitting in Prealgebra daydreaming about my latest crush. I am here to teach you this year that failure is not an option and, with that attitude and your achievements now, you can open up many paths in your future that you may not see just yet. However, math and teaching are only two of my passions. I am constantly in search of a new adventure, be it a new book, trip to the mountains, attempting glass blowing and stained glass, or a drive downtown, and I love the Muppets. As I grew up, I first tried out the veterinary field, loved it, then looked into architecture. I always have about five sewing, craft or art projects going at a time. I lived in Yellowstone for a summer, cleaning cabins and volunteering for the forest service. I have also spent a summer as a Cirquador for the Corteo Cirque du Soleil. I made my way to Century Middle School by volunteering, completing my mathematics degree and teaching certification at the University of Colorado. I recently completed my masters degree, specializing in middle school mathematics education. Throughout the years, I have also spent time working at Sylvan. Many of those years I was also a teacher for the adult education math classes within the district. I've enjoyed coursework on the brain through the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. I spend a Saturday every month being a math student through the Rocky Mountain Math Teacher's Circle at CU Denver. Spend time over the summer updating my IB teaching background. I love being a part of the blended learning atmosphere, earning a scholarship to InnEdCo conference and attending district technology workshops. I am working towards flipping my classroom to improve math learning. I have been a part of a 7th grade district planning team and have had the honor of being department head in our building. I began and cosponsored our Math Cafe after school in the library every Tuesday. Now I sponser the new 3D Makers club and am working towards building Century its very own makerspace. I look forward to an exciting 17th year here at Century! Most especially, I look forward to meeting each and every one of you and to push you to your potential.
