Mrs. Cox's Class

Welcome back to Century Middle School and 8th Grade math! I am excited to work with you and your family. I expect great things from you, and I will work hard to give you the tools you need to achieve them. Most importantly, students must come to class “ready to learn”. A student who is “ready to learn” is mentally ready to actively participate in class. This student eats a good breakfast, gets enough sleep, and comes to class prepared. Prepared students have multiple sharpened pencils, materials in their binder, and homework ready to review or hand-in.

An important part of mathematics is asking questions. I encourage students to ask as many questions as possible. Students may ask questions during class or outside of class. I am available EVERY MORNING from 7:45-8:20am or by appointment.  The other 8th grade math teachers are available to provide extra help, too!

  • Mrs. Myers is available in F104 Tuesdays & Fridays from 7:40-8:10am

  • Mr. Meade is available in G100 Wednesday at lunch and Thursday’s 4:00-4:30pm

Some important things to note about 8th grade math:

  • Students will need a 1 inch-1.5 inch binder and 3 divider tabs.  This will be used as a “tool kit”.

    • Tabs should be labeled “Warm ups, Notes, Homework/Practice,”

      • Students should have lined paper and graph paper clipped in.

  • There will be homework EVERY NIGHT.

    • All assignments will be on Clever. If you are absent, you should take a look at the lesson or activity that you missed and attempt the homework.

    • You must show work on a piece of paper in this section of your notebook.

    • You will have 2 attempts on each problem. Put a star next to your work if you did not get the problem correct - ASK a question the next day.

    • All assignments with a score less than 60%, will be unsubmitted by the teacher and counted as missing. You will be able to try this assignment again and get the new score posted in IC. (You must email your teacher with the new score)

    • Parents, please initial each night when you have seen the assignment SUBMITTED and WORK SHOWN.

I look forward to working with you! Please feel free to contact me by phone or e-mail with any questions. My website will have up to date news and homework assignments. Please review the attached syllabus snapshot for other important policies regarding the 8th grade math course. The official syllabus is also located on my website. Thank you!

Looking forward to a great year!

-Mrs. Cox
