Week of: Sept. 20-25

Monday:  Memoir excerpt from Why Not Me? By Mindy Kaling will be annotated IN CLASS using the “Memoir Weekly Notecatcher” in the Unit 1 folder in Schoology.  Students will continue their independent annotations while reading during independent time and focus on the author’s use of description, dialogue, text structures: italics, capitalization, font, etc. that engages the reader.  

Homework:  Students need to bring in a school appropriate object or a photograph that connects to a special moment, event, or memory.  (Students can take a picture on their cell phones, if they have them, if this makes it easier. They can also take a photo at home and email it to themselves.) This needs to be brought to LA class on Tuesday!

Tuesday:  In Schoolgy, in the Unit 1 Folder- “Quick Writes” assignment, students will complete Quick Write #1 using their personal object or photo.  They will be focusing on incorporating the 5 senses into their writing.  

Using the the “Memoir Weekly Notecatcher” in the Unit 1 folder in Schoology, students will continue their independent annotations while reading during independent time and focus on the author’s use of description, dialogue, text structures: italics, capitalization, font, etc. that engages the reader.

Wednesday:  Students will participate in a lesson about ebooks with the school’s librarian, Ms. Langbein.  Students will also be given time to continue reading their memoirs in class.

Thursday:  Memoir excerpt from Why Not Me? Friday:  Students will review the “look fors” we’ve studied that are commonly used in memoir writing/texts.  Using the the “Memoir Weekly Notecatcher'' in the Unit 1 folder in Schoology, students will continue their independent annotations while reading during independent time and focus on the author’s use of description, dialogue, text structures: italics, capitalization, font, etc., and theme/lesson shared.  

In Schoolgy, in the Unit 1 Folder- “Quick Writes” assignment, students will also complete Quick Write #2 focusing on incorporating description, dialogue, text structures: italics, capitalization, font, etc., and theme/lesson into their writing.  Students will set a goal to include at least ONE of these clearly into their quick write #2.
