Monday: Memoir excerpt from Born a Crime By Trevor Noah will be annotated IN CLASS using a notecatcher in the Unit 1 folder in Schoology.  Using the the “Memoir Weekly Notecatcher'' in the Unit 1 folder in Schoology, students will continue their independent annotations while reading during independent time and focus on the author’s use of description, dialogue, text structures: italics, capitalization, font, etc., figurative language, and theme/lesson shared.  


 

Tuesday:  In Schoology, in the Unit 1 Folder- “Quick Writes” assignment, students will also complete Quick Write #3 focusing on incorporating description, dialogue, text structures: italics, capitalization, font, etc., figurative language, and theme/lesson into their writing.  Students will set a goal to include at least ONE of these clearly into their quick write #3.

Wednesday:  A memoir excerpt from, Finding Gobi will be annotated IN CLASS during the warm up activity; the focus will be on creative and effective figurative language.  Using the the “Memoir Weekly Notecatcher'' in the Unit 1 folder in Schoology, students will continue their independent annotations while reading during independent time and focus on the author’s use of description, dialogue, text structures: italics, capitalization, font, etc., figurative language, and theme/lesson shared.  

Thursday:  TODAY’S Schedule is different due to the GT Screener during the regular 5th and 6th hour times.  Core classes will all be held in the morning, each about 35 minutes long.

The memoir exemplar, Knucklehead, chapter 2 and chapter 33, will be annotated IN CLASS (on paper).  Students will focus on the author’s use of description, dialogue, text structures: italics, capitalization, font, etc., figurative language, and theme/lesson shared.  If time, students will continue reading their group memoirs.

Friday:  Using the the “Memoir Weekly Notecatcher'' in the Unit 1 folder in Schoology, students will continue their independent annotations while reading during independent time and focus on the author’s use of description, dialogue, text structures: italics, capitalization, font, etc., figurative language, and theme/lesson shared.

Students will fill out an exit ticket identifying which of the 4 quick writes is their best work and the one they would like to take through the publishing process.
