Hello wonderful humans of planet earth! My name is Mr. Hand, and I will be teaching creative writing, Great Books, and yearbook. I am entering my 13th year in this great line of work; however, this is my first year at Century. I most recently taught at Mountain Range High School. At Mountain Range, I had the pleasure of teaching many former Century students, and they were lovely humans, so I know I'm joining a great team!
I studied philosophy and English literature at the University of Colorado Denver. Next spring I will be starting my master's degree in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education because my brain must grow! Outside of academia, I have studied marketing, communication, and leadership, having founded and operated a business for three years.
When I'm not in the classroom, I'm usually thinking about the wonderful world of education and school. When I'm not thinking about education or school, I am living the delightfully chaotic life of a husband and father of three. I like to stand on top of mountains. I like fountain pens (fine nibs are my favorite!). I have an obscene obsession with golf. I know how why the chicken crossed the road. I like most kinds of music, especially metal and classic hip-hop. I wrote "Die Hard: The Musical." And most importantly, I love the art of teaching and the next generation.
My office hours on Wednesday are 1:45pm-2:45pm. Please check my website which will include a running synopsis of what we did in class for the day (this is for parents and students who were absent); however, all course work will be on Schoology. Cheers!
