Welcome to 6th Grade Math! (This is not your class website, just my bio =)
We are going to expand your math universe beyond just that of computation. We will begin to explore other math realms like Geometry, Algebra, Logic, Problem Solving and more! Along with expanding your definition of what mathematics is, we will also be looking at redefining what it is to be a student in math and what it means to be a mathematician. As we go on this journey together, I will be your brain coach along the way.
Since 1999, I have played many roles here at Century. I have taught mathematics in all three grade levels. As a district, we are currently using the Big Ideas Mathematics curriculum alongside our Colorado State Academic Standards. (Please see the syllabus for more information). Over the years, I have had the honor of being a department chair, running various clubs (Honor Society, Yearbook, Math Counts….)and teaching a variety of elective courses (study skills, French, reading…). Currently, I am running the Makerspace club. I made my way to Century by volunteering, then completing my mathematics degree and teaching certification at the University of Colorado in Boulder. I completed my master's degree specializing in middle school mathematics education. My own children have passed through the halls of Century, along with other members of my extended family. I spend a Saturday every month reliving what it is like to be a student through the Rocky Mountain Math Teacher’s Circle at CU Denver. Working with teachers around the state and CU Denver, I have worked to bring the Julia Robinson Math Festival to Adams 12, and hope to bring it again this year.
I look forward to meeting and getting to know each of you and watch you grow as a math student!
